Bawdsey Manor - Day Three (17/05/23 - 2:15pm)
Last photo at PGL! It's been a brilliant few days with lots of fun and laughter. The children are very tired and unusually quiet on the coach... I think they're looking forward to getting home after a few long, busy days plus late nights. See you soon!
Bawdsey Manor - Day Three (17/05/23 - 8:45am)
We've packed, emptied our rooms and had breakfast, ready for our two final activities: fencing and rifle shooting.
Bawdsey Manor - Day Two (16/05/23)
It's been a busy day with lots of activities: canoeing, a challenge course, raft building, the trapeze and a disco to finish! The children are mostly packed and are now in bed. The following photo was taken just before the disco. See you tomorrow!
Bawdsey Manor - Day One (15/05/23)
After an eventful day, the children are in their rooms and ready for bed! (I asked the children to smile, look serious and then look sad for the photos in front of the manor; the results are interesting!)

Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have recently earnt their twentieth class point, giving them a class treat. We will be having our class treat tomorrow afternoon.
The children have decided that would like to have a movie afternoon. We have agreed they may bring in a small snack (not to be shared). We will choose a U film from Disney. They may also bring in something comfy to wear if they wish, plus a teddy and/or a blanket.
Kind regards,
Miss Clayton
RE - What spiritual pathways to moksha are written about in Hindu scriptures?
As part of our RE unit, we have been learning about different spiritual pathways to Moksha, the liberation or freedom from the cycle of birth-death-rebirth through different yogas:
Jnana yoga (the discipline of knowledge)
Karma yoga (the discipline of action)
Bhakti yoga (discipline of devotion)
Raja yoga (discipline of the mind)
In the UK, the celebration of Janmashtami at Bhaktivedanta Manor, the UK centre of ISKCON, attracts thousands of worshippers annually; Janmashtami is a festival celebrating the earthly appearance of Krishna i.e. his birthday. It is a good illustration of Bhakti Yoga with its celebration and praise of Krishna and its focus on showing devotion. Children celebrate in different ways, sometimes dressing up as Krishna. We made headdresses with peacock feathers as Lord Krishna wore a peacock feather. The story goes that Krishna played his flute and the peacocks were so mesmerized that with large tears of ecstasy, the king of peacocks dropped many divine feathers at Krishna’s feet. Krishna lovingly accepted the offering of the peacocks and picked up the feathers and to everybody’s joy, placed a few of them on his turban. Thus he came to wear the peacock feathers.
The Children's Bookshow - Friday 4th November
Today, Friday 4th November, we went to the Wolsey theatre to listen to Hilary McKay talk about her working life as an award-winning author. It was wonderful to hear about her approach to writing and what inspires her. She answered questions from the children, and also those who still had questions to do so via her website (link below). All the children were given a copy of "The Skylarks' War" as well as a signed bookmark.
Click on the links below to learn more about Hilary and the event.
Read the first 2 chapters of The Skylarks' War here.
Upcoming event: creative writing workshop with Catherine Johnson
Catherine will be visiting our class on Tuesday 8th November. We are very excited to learn from an author.

Homework Geography Projects - October 2022
As part of our topic on global issues, the children were given a choice of homework projects to complete. Below are pictures of the varied work they completed. They should be very proud of their efforts.
Please come in your school uniform on Tuesday 18th October and not your P.E. kit.
Ipswich Town Football Club - Monday 26th September 2022
The children had great fun practising their football skills on Monday when we had a visit from footballer Rob.
DIVERSITY DAY - Friday 24th June 2022
Today the children learnt about different types of disabilities, including invisible disabilities. We listened to children speak about their disabilities and how their daily lives are affected (see links below).
One of the activities involved the children imagining what it might like to be blind by navigating a trail whilst being blindfolded. Here are what some of the blind-folded children said:
Milla: “I was kind of scared at first, but knowing that I had someone there guiding me made me feel a lot safer.”
Isabelle: “I didn’t have any sense of direction. When I thought I was going forward, I was actually going left of right. My partner made it easier but I had to use my hands a lot to know where everything was.”
Oliver: “For me, it don’t feel that bad as I stormed roast everything. You need a friend you can trust that would actually lead you in the right place.”
Here is what some of those guiding said:
Thomas: “ You were in control so it added pressure. You had to know that your partner would be listening to you and doing the right thing and wouldn’t walk off.”
Maelys: “I had to be patient.”
Zara: “It was quite difficult because if they did something wrong, if was my fault.”
We also learned some British sign language, attempting to sign the Lord’s Prayer after learning the alphabet.
